Formula One has unveiled a rebrand for the first time in more than two decades. With it comes a revamped logo design that some are saying looks similar to that of CNN, ESPN, and in general, a video game.
The initiative was spearheaded by Formula One’s Marketing Director Ellie Norman and agency Wieden + Kennedy. In an interview with Fast Company, Norman explained that the push for the overhaul was to appeal to a broader audience, while paying tribute to the visual legacy of Formula One and putting fans at the forefront.
Considering Formula One has been around for over 70 years, the team has braced itself for pushback from diehard fans. Nevertheless, Norman has faith that the changes will be received positively over time.
As with many other logo redesigns, the visual in question has ignited responses, both positive and negative, from designers around the world. Have a read through the noteworthy comments below. Creatives, what are your thoughts about the new Formula One logo?

No one seems to like the new F1 logo but it actually could have been even worse. Here are some of the proposed designs and yes, ladies and gentlemen, one of them is a straight line... https://t.co/htGheJejhH pic.twitter.com/pcQBiO1kfU— Formula Money (@FormulaMoney) November 26, 2017
What the hell was that! That new @F1 logo and the treatment of it is awful! This would of been a better treatment... #F1 #AbiDhabiGP #F1logo #brand #design #SkyF1 #AskCrofty @SkySportsF1 @wtf1official pic.twitter.com/ETCvXsXgIo— Dave Edwards (@DaveEdwards97) November 26, 2017
If @F1 had added a little dink on the top of the 1, we might have an F1 logo instead of an r1 logo - Am I wrong..? @wtf1official @forf1sake @fia #combination13 #logo #design #Formula1 #formaulaone #f1 #libertymedia #f1newlogo #f12018 pic.twitter.com/lgWejYO2AE— COMBINATION13 (@combination13) November 26, 2017
Absolutely no idea where the idea for that new F1 logo came from. Absolutely not. Nope. Nothing. pic.twitter.com/IACZ6LvhGe— Ben Hunt (@benjhunt) November 26, 2017
