By Mikelle Leow, 01 Jan 2018

‘Marais Piano’ cake packaging by Kazuaki Kawahara, Platinum A’ Design Award Winner for ‘Packaging Design’ Category in 2016
The World Design Rankings (WDR) positions the countries that have been presented with the most titles from the A’ Design Award, an acclaimed multi-disciplinary competition in the global design industry.
The WDR aims to highlight the most innovative minds with the keenest attention to detail, as well as advocate up-and-comers from the world. The rankings also offer a snapshot of the creative strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities quintessential of each country.
Continuing its streak from prior, the United States remains at the top of the list, with 584 designers having been granted the A’ Design Award.
Apart from the winning country, the top 10 rankings have shuffled significantly as their footholds now depend on the number of Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron awards clinched by designers, rather than the aggregate number of awards received by each country. The United States is joined by runners-up China, Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Turkey, Australia, Portugal and Taiwan as 2017’s leading design countries.
The WDR welcomed nine new countries in 2017: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Luxembourg, Kenya, Tanzania, Liechtenstein, Armenia, Cameroon and Swaziland, recognizing the diverse tiers of value that a gamut of talent can offer.
