AI Startup Is Out To Create A Digital Copy Of Every Person Worldwide
By Yoon Sann Wong, 02 Jan 2018
Imagine a world where a digital copy of each human exists in reality sounds very much like an episode on Netflix’s Black Mirror. This, however, might just become reality given the vision of AI startup ObEN, co-founded by CEO Nikhil Jain.
After raising $5 million in an initiative led by tech giant Tencent, Jain is working to enhance technology that will eventually give every single person on the planet a 3D digital avatar.
“We believe every person in the world will eventually have their own copy,” Jain explained to BGR. “One that looks like them, talks like them — it’s not that far off. An AI-driven virtual copy that can be used by consumers like us in day-to-day applications. For example, my AI — my copy — can now sing better than me.”
For ObEN to pull this off, all it needs are a selfie of the individual and a voice recording by that person. Jain demonstrates his AI-copy in the video below.
The company plans to launch celebrity avatars by 2018 and has partnered with S.M. Entertainment—one of Asia’s largest entertainment companies—to launch ‘AI Stars’. This venture will be used to create products and services that marry technology with celebrities’ intellectual property.
“Celebrities want to be connecting with their fans… Once we have their avatar, we can give it instructions. OK, avatar, we want you to now sing this song,” explained Jain.
