Hotel Bills Social Media Influencer $6.5M ‘Publicity’ Fee After Posts Go Viral
By Yoon Sann Wong, 23 Jan 2018
Last week, the row between a hotel and social media influencer spread extensively across the internet after the accommodation responded to the YouTuber’s email in a series of public Facebook posts.
Paul Stenson, the owner of Dublin’s the White Moose Café and Charleville Lodge, savagely rejected beauty, lifestyle, and fitness YouTuber Elle Darby’s request to stay at the location for free in return for exposure.
While Stenson did not divulge Darby’s identity inside the initial response, the YouTuber took to the video platform to address Stenson’s public critique, following which Stenson issued two Facebook posts, one issuing an “apology” to all bloggers and the subsequent note declaring “all bloggers banned” from its business.
“If any of you attempt to enter our premises from now on, you will be ejected,” concluded Stenson in the latter post.
Following the brouhaha, Stenson has billed Darby with a €5.3 million (US$6.5 million) invoice charging for “The provision of features in 114 articles across 20 countries with a potential reach of 450 million people.”
The document, which was uploaded to The White Moose Café’s Facebook page, indicates, “Mentions in videos will not qualify as payment.”
Darby has not responded to Stenson’s millions-of-dollars invoice, which you can view below.
