KFC Forced To Close Over 600 UK Outlets After It Runs Out Of…Chicken

“The sky is falling,” cried ‘Chicken Little’. Humans would have to agree.
11 herbs and spices aside, KFC has unexpectedly run out of its main ingredient: chicken, forcing it to close 646 of its 900-odd outlets in the UK.
The move follows the chain’s delivery partnership with DHL, who previously promised to “set a new benchmark for delivering fresh products to KFC in a sustainable way,” only to later allude the delayed bird supply to “operational issues.”
Making light of the not-so-finger-lickin’-good news, KFC set up a webpage to direct patrons to the closest available outlets.
“The chicken crossed the road, just not to our restaurants,” the page reads.
“We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems—getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!”
“We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.”
A KFC spokesperson says it’s unclear when the problem will tide over, but the company has offered to pay employees on short-term contracts the average hours worked each day in the past 12 weeks, while those on full-term contracts will be remunerated as per normal. However, the policy only applies to locations owned by the chain; 80% of KFC restaurants in the UK are franchises.
“Franchisees will be seeking their own independent advice, but we’re encouraging them to adopt this policy too.”
