Bloomberg states that Apple is working on at least two different updated versions of its popular AirPods, one launching this year and one in 2019.
Apple’s new 2018 AirPods will feature at least two big upgrades. This includes improved wireless performance that will be a welcome change for managing Bluetooth connections.
It will also feature added support for the “Hey Siri” wake command. The currently available AirPods model does offer ‘Siri’ support, but users must tap headphones in order to wake ‘Siri’.
The new version of Apple’s AirPods will supposedly allow users to simply speak the phrase “Hey Siri” at any time to wake the assistant.
The second update will include water-resistant headphones to protect against splashes of water and rain, but not a full submersion like the current Apple Watch.
It is unclear when Apple plans to release its second-generation AirPods. Stay tuned for more updates.
