Amazon’s ‘Alexa’ might have pretended to have lost its voice in this year’s Super Bowl ad, but now, it looks like the voice assistant has truly gone mum.
Multiple users have taken to the internet to complain about ‘Alexa’ being unusually unresponsive. Users said that ‘Alexa’ failed to understand simple inquiries and have been responding with, “Sorry, something went wrong” and “Sorry, your Echo Dot lost its connection.”
Users also noticed ‘Alexa’ wearing a red ring instead of its normal blue one. An alarmed Twitter user said, “Alexa services are down. Shocking that an all-knowing all-hearing bodiless voice connected by invisible wires to millions of people is having issues. Skynet will soon be back online and destroying us all! Also, I can’t turn my lights on w/ my voice and I’m sad.”
According to TechCrunch, the voice recognition servers for ‘Alexa’—Echo and Sonos One—are experiencing technical difficulties. Twitter users, however, said that they can communicate via the ‘Alexa’ app.
Amazon has not released an official statement but a spokesperson from the team said that the issue will be resolved within two hours, Newsweek reported.
