Facebook has been under fire for reportedly allowing the private data of 50 million users to be leaked to British political consulting company Cambridge Analytica, but it seems as if there are going to be more ‘Angry’ reactions.
The social network has admitted in a blog post that instead of the already ridiculous 50-million figure, the number of breached accounts could be as high as 87 million.
“In total, we believe the Facebook information of up to 87 million people—mostly in the US—may have been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica,” wrote Mike Schroepfer, Chief Technology Officer at Facebook.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained in a separate post, “We wanted to wait until we had the full understanding.”
The platform also announced that an option for users to check if their information has been shared with Cambridge Analytica will be available on 9 April 2018.
When the feature rolls out, you’ll be able to see a detailed breakdown of how your data has been handled by third-party apps, including the ones associated with Cambridge Analytica, by clicking on a link at the top of your News Feed.
