Apple Rumored To Release A 2019 iPhone With Triple-Lens Rear Camera
By Izza Sofia, 10 Apr 2018
There could be a new iPhone in 2019 that carries a triple-lens rear camera, according to Taiwanese news site Economic Daily News.
It is speculated that the camera could carry a 12-megapixel lens that supports 5x zoom. It does not, however, specify the type of zoom—optical, hybrid or digital—available.
The existing iPhone 8, which was just released in the (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition, carries 5x digital zoom on its single-lens camera. The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X both have 10x digital zoom and up to 2x optical zoom on their dual-lens cameras.
Should this report turn out to be true, Apple would be taking after its rival, Huawei, which recently unveiled its flagship ‘P20 Pro’ smartphone that boasts triple Leica-made cameras. The 40-megapixel f/1.8 lens, 8-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens that has 3x optical zoom, and 20-megapixel f/1.6 monochrome lens crushed Apple, Samsung and Google’s smartphones in the DxO Mark ranking. The ‘P20 Pro’ surpassed Samsung’s Galaxy S9+ to become the best smartphone camera on market with the highest overall rating of 109.
If Apple were to develop a triple-lens rear camera for the iPhone, it would likely elevate the brand further. This also sets the stage for the 2019 iPhone X with a better camera that could possibly carry 3x optical zoom.
