Uber Unveils Its Latest ‘Flying Taxi’ Prototype That’s Set To Take Off In 2020
By Izza Sofia, 10 May 2018
Uber gives you a first look at its upcoming air taxi that’s set to debut in 2020.
The aircraft, which resembles a drone, features stacked rotors that support the machine for vertical takeoff and landing. The tail’s rotor, which enables forward propulsion, will run on electricity instead of fuel. This makes the vehicle more efficient, quieter, and less expensive to operate than a helicopter.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explained that in future, those keen to travel in an air taxi can call for one through the Uber app, and wait at the nearest rooftop port for the vehicle to arrive.
The company also encourages ride-sharing between four passengers to lower travel expenses. Khosrowshahi said that the company hopes this affordable option will appeal to people who are traveling longer distances and wish to save time by avoiding land traffic.
