IKEA Pokes Fun After Trump Momentarily Cancels Meeting With Kim Jong-Un
By Izza Sofia, 29 May 2018
The historic meeting between President Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un made headlines recently.
Both powerful leaders had agreed to meet in Singapore for an upcoming summit, before Trump abruptly announced that the meeting was to be called off due to “open hostility” from North Korea.
While some might have felt disappointed over the news, IKEA Singapore was inspired to create this humorous advertisement involving its ‘TRAMPA’.
The ad shows an image of its door mat with the punch line, “For entrances and (unexpected exits),” thereby taking a jab at the short-lived excitement over the anticipated meeting.
The ad comes with the caption, “We know it’s a ‘yuuuge’ commitment to decide on a door mat, but we’re 99.9% sure this is one anti-slip option that never pulls out.” The word “yuuuge” references the widely used term by Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign.
Though momentarily cancelled, summit is now back on, with Trump confirming it in a tweet.
He said, “Our United States team has arrived in North Korea to make arrangements for the Summit between Kim Jong-Un and myself. I truly believe North Korea has brilliant potential and will be a great economic and financial Nation one day. Kim Jong Un agrees with me on this. It will happen!”
This is not the first time IKEA has poked fun of a global event. The furniture giant recently created an hilarious ad especially for the Royal Wedding.
