The font on some receipts might be small and hard to read, but not this one. You can be sure that the “TOTAL 599,00 kr” on this piece will not go unnoticed to any human eye.
In this latest unveiling from IKEA and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh’s upcoming ‘MARKERAD’ collection, the duo introduced their never-before-seen massive rug, modeled after the IKEA receipt, on 7 June at the Democratic Design Days event in Sweden.
While several prototypes from this millennial-targeted collaboration were teased previously, the rug is a fresh addition that IKEA and Abloh fans haven’t set eyes on till now. The ‘MARKERAD’ cabinet and doorstop were also on display.
The glass cabinet, described as “a modern-day version of a baroque Wunderkammer,” is transparent on all sides. It sports a wooden frame and red handle modeled after a nail. IKEA calls it “a cabinet of curiosities, [which] people [use] to show off their favourite objects to the world.” This could include your sneakers—a product that Abloh is also very familiar with.
“I want each item to bring a sense of pride, and I want the great design to be the biggest reason why you get it,” says Abloh.
The ‘MARKERAD’ collection is scheduled for a limited release in 2019.
