There are now more than enough corroborative speculations about Apple’s 2018 iPhone lineup for third-party manufacturers to start retailing mockups of the upcoming devices.
Japanese Apple news site Mac Otakara has purchased some 3D mockups of the anticipated models from Chinese online marketplace AliExpress. The dummy units represent 2018’s rumored upgraded 5.8-inch iPhone X, 6.4-inch OLED ‘iPhone X Plus’, and 6-inch LCD iPhone.
When pit against 2017’s iPhone X, the 5.8-inch iPhone prototype measures just 0.04 inches wider than its predecessor. However, Mac Otakara points out it could just be a discrepancy in the schematics fed to manufacturers. In spite of the slight difference, it was still able to fit in an iPhone X case.
The 6.4-inch ‘iPhone X Plus’, which is believed to have an OLED display, is roughly the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus; the dummy model is just 0.04 inches shorter and 0.04 inches wider than the Touch ID-enabled smartphone, but is a tad thicker in comparison—so unfortunately, you might not be able to reuse your iPhone 8 Plus case for this model.
Based on its mockup, the ‘iPhone X Plus’ is expected to have the same camera tech as today’s iPhone X. Additionally, the notch seems to hold the same measurements.
The mid-range 6-inch LCD iPhone, on the other hand, appears to be thicker than the three dummy units and the current iPhone X.
Watch the video below to see how the rumored iPhones for 2018 differ in appearance from Apple’s recent smartphone offerings.
