Pop-Tarts—the kid-friendly brand famed for its sugary toaster pastries—recently tried to pander to its longtime fans, who are now adults. Unfortunately, not everyone was appreciative of this quirky move.
This week, the company tweeted a photo of its limited edition half-and-half ‘Splitz’ pastry sitting atop what appears to be a red boozy drink—but it’s not the apparent presence of alcohol that’s irking users.
The picture is accompanied with a caption that reads, “Calm down, it’s a virgin like you,” and while it has rendered quite the applause from users who think Pop-Tarts’ account is, “the best Twitter account ever made,” others have called it out for being age-inappropriate.
“In case you’re keeping track at home, our culture has reached a point where a children’s breakfast food brand will mock kids for being sexually inactive in exchange for likes on social media,” wrote Twitter user ‘claykraby’.
“This is in poor taste,” remarked ‘KylePlantEmoji’. “Avoid using any aspect of sexuality to insult someone.”
Do you think the joke was refreshing, or was it too much of a sick burn, even for a toaster pastry brand?

Really? Can we keep it appropriate? Encouraging young kids to have sex? My children are done eating Pop-Tarts. Sickening.— the cucc (@whatsCucciO) July 11, 2018
