Vegans can finally have their fill of comfort foods, now that chains have developed meat-free, dairy-free, and egg-free meals to keep them satiated.
It seems that they can also have a slice of the pie—Domino’s in New Zealand has introduced vegan cheese pizzas made with plant-based mozzarella, which means that lactose-intolerant eaters can finally delight in the dish, too.
The chain has partnered with Auckland-based Angel Food to create the item. The special mozzarella is also non-GMO, cholesterol-free, gluten-free, nut-free and soy-free.
If you’re keen to know what goes into this stretchy vegan cheese, Angel Food’s website says it’s made of “sunflower oil, modified pea and maize starch, salt, sugar, mineral salt… yeast extract, vegetable gum… acid (citric acid, lactic acid), [and] color (carotene).”
The ingredient is made to go with Domino’s new ‘Vegan Vegorama’ pizza, but you can also top the cheese on “any value, traditional or gourmet pizza” at an additional NZ$2.99 (US$2.03).
The vegan cheese pizzas are expected to be available for a limited time, though the brand might make them permanent if they pan out well with the crowd.
