If the hot summer already feels like it’s baking you to a crisp, just wait till you see how unbothered this Japanese chef is about heat.
Internet users from Japan have been left tongue-tied after seeing footage of a chef at Tenkin, a tempura joint near Mount Fuji, deep-frying foods with his bare hand dunked into scalding hot oil.
Shared by ‘Yuku1991’ from Twitter, the eatery’s owner and chef is seen immersing a battered egg yolk in a pot of cooking oil with his right hand. Unfazed, he proceeds to deep-fry the next egg.
Per SoraNews24, netizens have cried out wondering if the man has lost all feeling in his hand.
A more legitimate explanation, however, is that the method is an instance of the Leidenfrost effect. When a liquid is near contact of a much hotter substance than its boiling point, an insulating layer of vapor will be formed to prevent the liquid from boiling.
Don’t test this theory at home, though. Such things are better left to the experts. If you’re keen to check this place out, Tenkin is located in front of Hamamatsu Station in Shizuoka, Japan.
pic.twitter.com/Ycu20RBECe

pic.twitter.com/ezyPJp8uLC
