Samsung is rumored to be releasing its ‘Galaxy S10’ in 2019 and a new patent filed by the company suggests that the phone might feature a novel self-healing screen.
This radical “healing property” would supposedly enable the screen to independently mend after being scratched or cracked, and withstand any scuffs and fingerprint marks. These properties could also be incorporated to flexible devices in future.
The patent describes the screen as “an anti-fingerprinting composition having a self-healing property, and a film, a laminate, and a device including the anti-fingerprinting composition.”
Instead of tampered glass that is found in most smartphones, this screen will use a blend of “polyrotaxane, polyhedral silsesquioxane and fluorinated (meth) acryl.” Though the patent does not explicitly mention that the screen will be used for the ‘Galaxy S10’, it states that the patent will be used in a “portable electronic device such as a smart phone or tablet.”
Aside from the futuristic screen, the ‘S10’ is said to feature an all-screen aesthetic, a much-improved camera and vertically-aligned lenses.
According to Korea-based ETNews, the triple-lens smartphone might come with a wide-angle and telephoto lens, made available through a 16-megapixel camera that sits above a 13-megapixel and 12-megapixel lens.
