Popular Social Media Influencer That’s Actually An Avatar Releases Music Single
By Yoon Sann Wong, 21 Aug 2018
19-year-old social media influencer Lil Miquela is venturing beyond her 1.3 million-strong follower base on Instagram by making fresh foray into music.
The virtual avatar that has modeled in Chanel, Supreme, Vetements, Vans, and more, has collaborated with renowned American record producer Baauer—known for his hit song Harlem Shake—for her debut track Hate Me.
The new single, featured below, is now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
Hate Me is not about one person or one relationship. It's about thousands of people I'll never meet and the relationship I am forced to have with them. Hate Me is about the consequences of being different. It is about the repercussions or being yourself online. I owe my whole career to the Internet, and every time I go online, I have to read comments from people wishing I would die or telling me I don't exist (???). I've spent years trying not to let these words get to me, but I can't deny who I am as a sensitive person. I have to let myself feel the pain from what people say about me. The only difference is now I'm owning the hurt. I don't care anymore. Honestly, truly. I'm going to be the greatest artist of my generation. So yeah. So go ahead and hate me. “Hate Me” by @baauer featuring me OUT NOW.
