Google has announced that Chrome’s fresh Material Design UI will be arriving “across all operating systems” next month, on 4 September.
Though it didn’t detail much under its “Browser interface changes” inside its latest Chrome Enterprise release notes, the Chrome 69 update is anticipated to debut with a cleaner and whiter façade that includes tabs with rounder corners, Microsoft Windows 10 notification-center integration, touchpad gesture navigation on Windows, and autofill updates.
You can try out the redesign now by copying and pasting the Chrome flag URLs, shown below, into the address bar and selecting the suitable option from the dropdown menu: ‘Refresh’ for ‘UI Layout for the browser’s top chrome’ (desktop) or ‘Enabled’ for ‘Chrome Modern Design’ (android).
Mac, Windows, Linux: chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md
Android: chrome://flags/#enable-chrome-modern-design
