New On Netflix ‘Love In The Buff’ Cheeky Film Poster Font Cracks Up Internet
By Yoon Sann Wong, 23 Aug 2018
This August, Netflix UK added the 2012 Hong Kong rom-com film Love in the Buff to its lineup. This version that’s catered for the English-speaking audience comes with its own film poster fronted by an interesting choice of typography.
As if intentional, the eye-catching font and accompanying thumbnail graphic has left viewers doing a double take on what appears to read, “Love in the Butt.”
Browsing Netflix's recently added section and came across this awful font choice for the word 'Buff' from r/CrappyDesign
The humorous typeface and photo pairing has internet users once again wondering, “Is it crappy design or is it genius design?” After all, similar to Nike’s controversial ad, it has undoubtedly grabbed viewers’ attention.
From the perspective of Reddit user ‘ScientistRickSanchez’, whoever designed the English film poster and thumbnail on Netflix “knew exactly what they were doing.”
The design went on to inspire hilarious pun responses. Redditor ‘vingeran’ commented, “In hindsight it was the right decision,” to which ‘Pugs_of_war’ responded, “I’m glad we got to the bottom of this.” Of course it didn’t help that the film was discovered to have been given a very strategic score of “6.9” on movie database website IMDB.
You can see the English movie poster and highlight responses that surfaced on Reddit thread ‘/r/CrappyDesign’ below.
