‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’ Production Comes To A Halt, Crew Members Dismissed
By Izza Sofia, 27 Aug 2018
Production for the third instalment of Guardians of the Galaxy has come to a halt, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sources reveal that crew members who had been recruited for its pre-production in fall have been dismissed and released to take part in other jobs. The move has been described as “temporary,” as Disney and Marvel are “regroup[ing]” on the project.
James Gunn was initially chosen to direct the film, with principal photography slated to begin in January or February 2019. The project was scheduled for pre-production in fall but unfortunately, several of Gunn’s controversial tweets, resurfaced from nearly one decade ago, led to the director’s dismissal by Disney in July.
Disney chairman Alan Horn finalized the agreement to not bring Gunn back to the team despite an open letter penned by Guardians of the Galaxy’s cast members.
A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Disney has not set a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and is still in search for a new director. It is said that Marvel recently met up with Thor: Ragnarok’s director Taika Waititi but it is unclear as to the outcome of their discussion.
The firing has riled fans and member of the cast, especially Dave Bautista, who plays character ‘Drax the Destroyer’. Bautista recently “thanked” Disney for not bringing Gunn back to film the upcoming installation.
Bautista expressed his disappointment by tagging Disney in the tweet shown below that features a clip of Mike Cernovich, the alt-right figure who is largely responsible for Gunn’s firing.
