National Geographic’s ‘Microphone Of Truth’ Changes Color To Fight Fake News
By Izza Sofia, 28 Aug 2018
National Geographic in Latin America has developed a new device in an attempt to combat fake news.
As part of its first investigative journalism show called Explorer Investigation, the brand created the ‘Microphone of Truth’ in partnership with creative digital production company MediaMonks.
This microphone is capable of detecting a user’s voice and heart rate to determine the accuracy of the information being shared. If a person tells the truth, the microphone will emit a green hue, but if the microphone turns red in color, it means that the speaker is lying.
In the event that it detects skeptical information, the microphone will turn yellow in color. National Geographic Partners Latam head of creative services Alex Mendes said that the purpose was to redesign the conventional microphone “in a time of fake news.”
Though the microphone might not be 100 percent accurate, it certainly puts pressure on the speaker to tell the truth.
