The celebrity look of the year might have to be Kanye West’s getup at rapper 2 Chainz’s wedding. In place of an expected fancier ensemble, the reality star arrived at the event in a suit with no shirt on, as well as socks and too-tiny slides.
The outfit has since catapulted to meme status, seeing as how West is the founder of streetwear and sneaker empire Yeezy. Wouldn’t it be easy for him to just grab shoes from his closet that weren’t too small for his feet?
West’s response to the hoo-ha arrived only two weeks later. Apparently, he had been dressing up “the Japanese way.” On Twitter, he shared a couple of illustrations that backed up the concept he was going for.
Per the visual aids, wearing your slippers with your heels extending ever-so-slightly out of the back of the soles will prevent you from getting blisters.
These recommendations are really for people wearing wooden sandals with Y-shaped straps, though, so not everybody was convinced by the overdue justification.
“Boy, you had like three inches hanging off at 2 Chainz’s wedding, don’t lie,” pointed out Twitter user ‘EyeOfTheZeiger’.
Still, you might want to give West the benefit of the doubt, since he has said that a lot of his ideas are incited from his favorite anime, Akira. In fact, he recently gifted the 1988 film’s creator, Katsuhiro Otomo, a pair of Yeezys to thank him for inspiring, “every stage show I’ve ever worked on… every video… every product, even when I was in the hospital.”

He's really trying to justify himself wearing slides too small for his feet... Interesting that it took him like two weeks to find this 🤔 pic.twitter.com/KBbwbb0Y6B— Indigo Black 💙🖤 (@dannybabybooty) August 28, 2018
Kanye replies when Kanye wants to. Kanye acknowledges things and people when Kanye wants to. Kanye does what Kanye wants, whenever Kanye wants to— Heidi Fleiss (@Vooonnnaaa) August 28, 2018

Well yeah, but we can just say that Kanyes' look was just more inspired rather than doing it the "Japanese way". I mean, he IS an artist, so this just makes TOTAL SENSE. i.e., the Japanese way is 2-3 centimeters, but Kanye, given his artisitic perception, is 2-3 INCHES! #style— Lesaint Seymour (@LesaintSeymour) August 29, 2018
Katsuhiro Otomo the creator of Akira This movie is my biggest creative inspiration pic.twitter.com/mbOK9u8u23— KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) August 27, 2018
