Istanbul-based industrial design student Furkan Kasap has reimagined the MacBook Pro with a full touchscreen keyboard.
While the design has appeared pleasing to some eyes, it seems to prioritize a radically new interface over user-friendliness.
This touchscreen UI sits where its trackpad currently lies, while this component is relocated to the right-hand side. The Touch Bar remains, though upsized to include more thumbnails of various apps.
While some described the design as “cool,” others provided feedback about the practicality of the design.
“Why would I constantly want to look down every time I want to press a key. This will drastically slow down typing time,” responded YouTube user Chidi Anuforo.
When it comes to touchscreen keyboards, one major gripe is the tactile experience that aids typists in matching finger to correct key. While haptic feedback aids this somewhat, the technology and design of such interfaces still has room for improvement.
In future, perhaps, Apple might succeed in creating a touchscreen keyboard for the MacBook that feels real.
