You might have tried out Twitter’s ‘Who to Follow’ recommendations before. The feature suggests accounts whose posts you might want to view on your timeline, based on the people you follow and the types of content you engage with.
In an unprecedented move, the social network recently experimented with a feature that does the exact opposite: it shows you who to unfollow.
A small group of users spotted the option, and Twitter has since confirmed with Slate that the “incredibly limited test”—which only lasted a few days—was one of the options that it considered to ensure users would enjoy a “relevant” timeline.
“One way to [get a relevant timeline] is by unfollowing people they don’t engage with regularly… [and to] surface accounts that people were not engaging with…“ a spokesperson said.
However, Twitter did not specify if the test was a success. In the meantime, you might want to delete people the traditional way by muting or unfollowing accounts that make the most “noise” on your timeline.
