Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on indefinite hiatus, now that Disney has fired director James Gunn after some of his offensive tweets from the past were brought to light.
Of all the cast members from the franchise, the most outspoken individual would have to be Dave Bautista, who not only “thanked” Disney for not rehiring Gunn, but also drew fans’ attention to Mike Cernovich, one of the men who cost Gunn his job.
In a recent interview on Britain’s The Jonathan Ross Show, Bautista further expressed his cynicism about reprising his role as ‘Drax’ in the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
“It’s a bittersweet conversation—um, no, it’s a bitter, bitter conversation,” the actor and retired wrestler lamented. “Because I’m not really happy with what [Disney has] done with James Gunn.”
“They’re putting the movie off. It’s on hold indefinitely… to be honest with you, I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.”
The subject was averted when Kevin Hart pointed out that he didn’t “want to be be here if [Bautista] gets upset… I do not want to see that man pissed off.”
While Gunn has reportedly received job offers from numerous film executives from major studios, it’s hard to tell if they’ll be as willing to extend opportunities to Bautista, who has proven that he won’t shy away from overtly calling out his employers when something goes amiss.
Considering Disney’s stance in the film industry, some fans have dubbed his public reluctance, “career suicide.”
“Is this really a hill you want to die on, Dave?” asked Twitter user ‘banepapi_93’.
“Dave Bautista brings gasoline to his bridges,” tweeted ‘buypopcorn’.

Exactly. Would destroy his film career. I love him in the role but he's very replaceable.— Vince Lightning (@SuccaLaMinkia) September 3, 2018
If Chris Pratt was the one threatening or considering dropping out it would be different.
If Chris Pratt joins this will work, otherwise they can just blame Thanos.— Chris Sanders (@csandreas) August 6, 2018

It's refreshing how honest Bautista has been about the situation. Still blows my mind that it's come this far. https://t.co/PxtJMulsWT— Rochi Shion (@Marvel_Freshman) September 3, 2018

He supports his friends innocence which to me is admirable— Christian Meador (@Darealuncljesse) September 3, 2018
If @DaveBautista doesn't return as Drax in GOTG3, I'm not even gonna bother to watch it. Ever.— Chris Pirillo (@ChrisPirillo) September 2, 2018
