Donald Trump has ignited confusion and critique after posting an image on Twitter to honor those who died in 9/11.
On the memorial date, Trump tweeted an image that shows him with the First Lady and White House staff standing at attention to pay respect to the victims of 9/11.
The caption reads, “Departing Washington DC to attend a Flight 93 September 11th Memorial Service in Shanksville, Pennsylvania with Melania.”
However, eagle-eyed internet users noticed that the image features Omarosa Manigault Newman and Hope Hicks, both of who have already left the Trump Administration.
In the photo, Newman wears a blue-and-green patterned dress, while Hicks dons a black dress.
Twitter user West Wing Report commented, “On - of all days - Sept. 11, [Trump] posted this photo showing his staff honoring the tragic anniversary. But: 1) It was raining today and 2) it includes the long-departed Hope Hicks and Omarosa.”
New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted, “Reporters would have to issue a correction,” highlighting that had this photo been published by a journalist, the White House would have probably hastily condemned the mixup.
Take a look at more responses below.
.@RealDonaldTrump is an Orwellian manufacturer of "Fake News." On - of all days - Sept. 11, he posted this photo showing his staff honoring the tragic anniversary. When journalists make mistakes, @RealDonaldTrump pounces on them like a starving lion to a piece of meat, saying he's the victim, everyone's out to get him and the press is the enemy of the people. When he deliberately posts something like the above - the typical response is..meh pic.twitter.com/n4VCjreG5H— West Wing Reports (@WestWingReport) September 11, 2018
You couldn't take yourself away from Twitter to do a new photo today, huh? This is an old shot because Hope Hicks and @OMAROSA are pictured front/right. More fakery from your fraudulent, feckless facsimile of an administration. Pitiful. And typical. #NeverForget— Lesley Abravanel (@lesleyabravanel) September 11, 2018
This picture is a fake a fraud a sham - it’s from 2017 - here it is from a 2017 article from CBS pic.twitter.com/la6tXdATsS— Bobby (@cjohnsonspider) September 12, 2018
I thought you had hit ground level with your lies, but this breaks through to basement level - you have no shame, even on such an important Memorial Day 😡👎 pic.twitter.com/OSRFhqIWdy— Jackie (@aussiejackie) September 12, 2018
Wait! Omarosa is in this picture (2nd to the right from Sanders) and it's overcast in DC today, not sunny.— Dan Sloan 🇺🇸🏳️🌈🇨🇦 (@dantoujours) September 11, 2018
