Vespa Opens Pre-Orders For Its First All-Electric Scooter Design
By Yoon Sann Wong, 10 Oct 2018
Piaggio, Italian motor vehicle manufacturer and parent company of Vespa, has created the first-ever all-electric model under this scooter brand.
Online pre-orders for the Vespa ‘Elettrica’, priced at €6,390 (US$7,340), opened on 8 October. Its debut will begin in Europe towards the end of 2018, followed by the US market beginning 2019.
Vespa ‘Elettrica’ is powered by a four-kilowatt electric motor and has been designed to cover a maximum range of 100km. This doesn’t vary much between urban and extra-urban environments thanks to the scooter’s lithium ion battery and efficient kinetic energy recovery system, which restores the battery during deceleration.
Recharging the battery is straightforward. Simply plug the cable located in the compartment below the saddle into a normal electric wall socket. Alternatively, you can plug it into any recharging point situated in your city. Full recharge takes about four hours.
