Burger King Tests If Its Spooky New Sandwich Can Give Its Customers Nightmares
By Izza Sofia, 18 Oct 2018

Burger King has released a new burger just in time for Halloween.
The spooky burger called the ‘Nightmare King’ features a quarter pound of juicy flame-grilled beef, crispy chicken fillet, bacon, and melted American cheese topped with mayonnaise plus onions, all packed between unusual green-colored buns.
According to the fast food brand, the burger is part of its research conducted together with Paramount Trials and Florida Sleep & Neuro Diagnostic Services.
The experiment aims to determine if the burger is capable of giving you nightmares. The study involved 100 participants who were fed the ‘Nightmare King’ and examined over 10 nights.
The team tracked the “victims” sleeping patterns, including their heart rate, breathing patterns, and brain activity. One of the subjects reported that she had imagined being transformed into a “figure of a snake” during her sleep, while another dreamt that the boat he was on suffered an attack by aliens.
According to the study’s lead Dr Jose Gabriel Medina, four percent of the population experience nightmares in a typical night. Statistics show that the chance of a person experiencing nightmares rose by three and a half times after eating the burger.
Dr Medina explained that the combination of certain ingredients in the sandwich interrupted subjects’ REM (Rapid Eye Movement) cycles, the phase where an individual experiences dreams.
The ‘Nightmare King’ is available to purchase in participating Burger King outlets at US$6.40, starting 22 October and for a limited time only.
