Opioid Addict’s Three-Day Detox Treatment PSA Gets Live Streamed In NYC
By Izza Sofia, 23 Oct 2018
A new PSA dubbed ‘Know the Truth’, which comes in as the second part under public campaign ‘The Truth About Opioids’, been created to raise awareness about the hardships of opioid addiction.
The video, which was created in partnership with creative agency 72andSunny and the Ad Council, features the first three days of detox treatment for 26-year-old opioid addict Rebekkah. Her treatment was recorded and live streamed for viewing in New York City, thereby giving passersby access to her painful experience on the road to recovery.
Speaking about filming the rehabilitation period, Rebekkah commented, “If making my detox public is going to help somebody, I’m all for it.” In the video, Rebekkah explains that her addiction began after the doctor had prescribed opioid painkillers for her sprained ankle, which she incurred while dancing.
The PSA aims to shine a light on the importance of treatment and to educate the public on how opioid intake can lead to harmful addiction. More than 100 people in the US die from misuse of the substance and opioid users can start being dependent on it after five days of usage.
