Thanks to the “unagi” demonstrated by the Friends fandom, the Blackpool Police of Northwest England have found their thief, the spitting image of ‘Ross Geller’ from the 90s sitcom.
In a cheeky Facebook post written on Thursday, the department declared, “Could we BE any more overwhelmed with the response to our CCTV appeal on Tuesday,” naming the incident, “the one where we wanted to identify a man in connection with a theft at a Blackpool restaurant on 20 September.”
The police also thanked the internet for sharing the surveillance photo with “all your Friends.”
The viral post—which the department said enjoyed a social media reach of 23.1 million users, 65,000 likes and reactions, as well as 113,000 shares—has now been deleted from the Facebook page. It showed a familiar face pilfering a crate of beers from a restaurant.
Admitting the resemblance, Friends actor David Schwimmer hilariously recreated CCTV footage to affirm that he was not present at the scene of the crime.
Due to the worldwide attention given to the post, the officers said they received several tip-offs that finally led them to the culprit.
