White House’s Blood Red Christmas Décor Gets Likened To ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’
By Izza Sofia, 27 Nov 2018
The White House has unveiled its Christmas decorations for the year that comes in a not-quite-so-festive blood red hue.
First Lady Melania Trump shared photos and videos of the aesthetic on Twitter, complete with red tinsel trees as well as green firs, red baubles hung on branches, and ‘Be Best’-inspired ornaments, referencing her anti-bullying campaign.
Last year, the Trumps decorated the White House in an all-white theme, which drew comparisons to horror films. This year, the red setting has garnered comparisons to movies such as The Shining, There Will Be Blood and The Handmaid’s Tale.
According to Trump, the red Christmas decorations are meant to represent patriotism, but clearly other things came to mind for many Twitter users.

Thank you to all the volunteers from across our great nation who are working hard to decorate the @whitehouse. Can’t wait to view it all tomorrow night! #ChristmasattheWhiteHouse 🌲 pic.twitter.com/rfhR7uGtf6— Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) November 24, 2018

That's even creepier than last year. It's like The Addams Family Christmas.— Anne Born (@nilesite) November 26, 2018

"Take the blood of my enemies and paint the trees. Send it to the village for the Winter Harvest Festival as warning. Let no one ever cross me again. Be Best."
"Be Best, my Lady," the underling replied and scurried away. pic.twitter.com/WXkj6ygfBN
