The famous ‘Fearless Girl’ statue that symbolizes female empowerment has temporarily disappeared from New York’s financial district.
The award-winning statue showing a defiant young girl staring down the iconic Wall Street Bull was removed from the site on 27 November and will be installed in front of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) by end 2018.
The bronze sculpture has been replaced with a plaque featuring two shoe prints with the words, “’Fearless Girl’ is on the move to the New York Stock Exchange. Until she’s there, stand for her.” The plaque was designed by advertising agency McCann New York.
In partnership with the City of New York, the shift aims to prevent tourists from disrupting the traffic on Broadway, where the statue was located.
New York City’s mayor Bill de Blasio mentioned that the new location will improve access for visitors while ensuring the statue’s message continues to be heard.
