Banksy has now made it possible for eagle-eyed enthusiasts to afford one of his artworks. The anonymous street artist recently announced on Instagram that a boat sculpture from the immersive Dismaland “bemusement park” art exhibition will be up for raffle at just £2 (US$2.55).
In order to qualify for the piece, fans will need to guess the actual weight of the sculpture. The £2 price that Banksy mentions is really the raffle fee requested by Choose Love—the first store in the world that lets you buy gifts for refugees—so in actuality, the artist is giving up the installation for free.
Measuring at 90cm x 38cm x 42cm (2.95ft x 1.25ft x 1.38ft), the coin-operated boat comes with batteries and is accompanied with a remote control that lets it run at a top speed of three knots (five feet per second).
“How heavy it weighs,” Banksy describes in his post. You just have to guess how much at Choose Love’s website by 22 December at 8pm GMT.
The sculpture’s price is indeed a far cry from that of Banksy’s Love is in the Bin, formerly known as Girl with Balloon, which sold for US$1.4 million despite being shredded seconds after its sale closed.
