‘Captain Marvel’ BTS Shows How Brie Larson Prepared For The Superhero Role
By Izza Sofia, 09 Jan 2019
Marvel Studios has released a sneak peek that shows how Brie Larson prepared herself for the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.
The behind-the-scenes featurette sees Larson going through intense training to play ‘Carol Danvers’. However, even before the cameras started rolling, Larson had given her followers a look at her workout regime spanning nine months. Though it was tough work with intense barbell hip thrusts and heavy chains draped around her while doing push ups, she has gladly endured all the sweat and pain to get ready for this role.
While the physical preparations were important to ensure Larson could perform the stunts in the movie without injuring herself, the hard workouts also showed her who ‘Carol Danvers’ really is.
In the featurette, the film’s co-director Anna Boden explains, “‘Captain Marvel’ is about somebody who goes on a journey of discovery, and I think it was really important for [Larson] to learn how to fight.” Larson adds, “By the time we started shooting, I had been training for nine months, and I’m glad that I did. Doing fight sequences up and down a train for three days? I felt kind of alive.”
She also visited an Air Force base to gain more insight about her character. “The thing that I found so unique about this character was that sense of humor mixed with total capability in whatever challenge comes her way, which I realized after going to the Air Force base, is really what Air Force pilots are like,” Larson explained.
Captain Marvel hits theaters on 8 March 2019.
