Ford’s latest tester is a sweaty bum, but it’s not your athleisure-wearing neighbor who only pretends to work out.
To combat perspiration from derrières subjected to hotter temperatures or intense workouts, the automaker has introduced a simulation called the ‘Sweaty Robutt’ to ensure its car seats stay hardy while you’re dripping with finesse.
Per a blog post by Ford Europe, the robot booty is engineered to resemble the posterior of a “large man.” It runs at a temperature of 96.8°F—the average body temperature—and is fed with 450 milliliters of water to simulate human perspiration.
The techy tushy is an extension of Ford’s original ‘Robutt’, which debuted in 2016 sans the moisture. To ensure its seats survive a decade of regular wear and tear, Ford rubs the contraption on a test seat 7,500 times, the equivalent to 10 years of sitting, and wiggles it back and forth to mimic the motion of driving.
The end result is a seating experience that would hopefully last you a long-ass amount of time—no butts about it.
