One of the most essential ways to protect yourself as a freelancer is by having a good contract crafted out for you. Without one, you might end up biting more than you can chew.
Thankfully, you won’t require a 50-page document to keep your rice bowl safe. In fact, you won’t even have to do as much as swap out a few keywords to ensure your work is protected.
In compliance with NYC’s ‘Freelance Isn’t Free Act’, which helps remote workers prevent disagreements and non-payments, a firm called The Plain Contract has created a “bulletproof” template that aims to protect all freelancers.
The free download replaces complicated “legalese” to prevent others from exploiting a partnership with you.
“Most contracts are written by lawyers, for other lawyers. Meet the first contract written for you,” the creators say.
Available as a Google Doc, the template also contains color-coded terms that let you easily modify deliverables, IP ownership, payment terms, and more. Download it for free here.
