Tokyo Airport’s 3D Optical Illusion Floor Signs Are ‘Rising Up’ To Aid Visitors
By Izza Sofia, 31 Jan 2019
Train operator Keikyu Corporation has launched two optical illusions signs at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport International Terminal Station.
The signs take the form of 3D art and help guide passengers to nearby elevators that lead to the underground train platforms. Keikyu Corporation stated that passengers often overlook the elevators and head towards the escalators instead.
One of the signs shows a huge arrow—with blue sky and white clouds—pointing to the location of the elevators, while another red-and-blue sign shows an image of the elevator with the words “to Platform.” The signs were designed by an optical illusion expert from Meiji University Kokichi Sugihara.
Keikyu official Masaya Togawa hopes that the “pop-up” signs will help visitors and improve the traffic flow in the area.
