‘Queen Meghan’ Artist Had No Idea Beyoncé Would Share His Work In BRITs Speech
By Izza Sofia, 08 Mar 2019
The artist responsible for a painting depicting a regal Meghan Markle has declared that he was not aware Beyoncé and Jay-Z would feature it in their acceptance speech at the 2019 BRIT Awards.
The couple, who were unable to attend then, pre-recorded their speech, which saw them recreating their APES**T music video with the portrait.
The painting’s creator, Tim O’Brien, isn’t fazed, though. He has since joked that he wishes for it to be showcased at the Louvre in Paris.
He was originally commissioned to paint the portrait for The Key, the magazine of ‘Kappa Gamma Sorority’, of which Meghan Markle was a former member.
Nevertheless, the artist expressed that he could not have envisioned how recognized the regal painting would have become around the world.
He took a screenshot of the acceptance video, later sharing it on his Instagram with the caption, “So this happened today.”
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the artist claimed he was unaware that his painting would be featured, and he would gladly accept if the painting was featured in the Louvre. O’Brien added he wanted Markle to look regal and befitting of a classic painting—he even tried to make the artwork exude an “aged feel.”
Beyoncé herself shared a few visuals of herself with her husband in front of the painting to her 125 million followers, instantly making the painting famous worldwide by association.
