Nintendo’s hybrid console, the ‘Switch’, is designed to both be used at home and unplugged outdoors. This DIY project, though, ensures that your console is omnipresent. It will also turn your television into a centerpiece and talking point for guests.
Pictures of a 65-inch flat screen television modified to resemble a Nintendo Switch have gone viral on Facebook. The project turns out to have been started by video game lover Suprman9, who had planned to create a unique frame for his television.
Initially, the fan wanted to recreate a Game Boy Color—his first gaming system—to surround his television. However, he discovered it wouldn’t appear realistic, as the original device has a squarish display. He then considered a Nintendo 3DS, but discovered that if he added an open-close mechanism to his screen, it “was going to be difficult to support the TV.”
“The Switch was the perfect design because the center console looks like a miniature TV,” he describes. “Also, the Switch is the [most] current console and has had some of my favorite games on it (Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild).”
Creating a giant ‘Nintendo Switch’ proved to be a challenging feat from Start to game over. Suprman9 recalled that the console’s ‘Joy-Cons’ were the most difficult to recreate due to their curved ends. It also wasn’t easy to find neon paints to match the controllers’ bright hues.
The end result, as shown in the photos below, is spectacular. You wouldn’t be able to tell that the massive ‘Nintendo Switch’ was carved out of wood. The ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘X’ and ‘Y’ “buttons” also add a nice touch, despite being there just for aesthetic purposes.
