IKEA Asks Artists To Repurpose Its Furniture Into Sustainable Animal Homes
By Izza Sofia, 13 Mar 2019
To celebrate the launch of IKEA London’s sustainable Greenwich store, the company has teamed up with creative company Mother London and local artists to create a project called ‘Wildhomes for Wildlife’.
The project sees creatives—including Hattie Newman, Nathaniel Furman and Supermundane—designing a series of animal homes made from upcycled IKEA furniture. Now, even furry, feathered and flying neighbors can enjoy amazing abodes, Mother London says.
Among the products that have been repurposed and transformed into plush pads for bees and bats are IKEA’s ‘INDUSTRIELL’ shelving unit, ‘BURVIK’ side table and ‘STRÅLA’ lamp.
A total of eight bespoke living spaces for lucky animals have been created, proving that not only students would be happy to fill their apartments with flat-pack furniture.
