Disney finally removed the veil on its ever-elusive live-action Aladdin reboot. As well as a full-length trailer, the company has unleashed a poster that although stays true to the film’s essence, but also looks oddly familiar.
In side-by-sides shared on Twitter, filmmaker Jake Cunningham points out that the new poster seems to channel that of Disney’s 2015 Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
True enough, the Aladdin visual mirrors the red, orange and blue hues depicting the ‘Jedi’ VS the dark side in The Force Awakens. The imagery in both posters also shrink from top-down.
“Big studios [keep using] the same poster generator software,” comments Twitter user ‘tarektoverso’. “Floating heads [plus] orange/blue tint. Next!”
Hannah Woodhead, associate editor at movie review site Little White Lies, also shares that the same formula seems to have been applied for the 2003 Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over poster.
Will the world ever see the end of this trope?
