Lake Michigan literally waves spring hello with a beautiful gesture—it has thawed and shattered to form ice shards that are straight out of Disney’s Frozen.
As of 8 March, 56 percent of the lake was enveloped in ice, but the water beneath has now pushed up the frozen layer to create a truly riveting pattern.
Pictures of the water body along South Haven’s pier have surfaced, and they’re so mesmerizing, you might want to take a trip down for a gander—but don’t get too close just yet.
As fascinating as the sight might be, US Coast Guard BMC Grant Heffner warns that “no ice is safe ice” during this time of year. “The ice is certainly deteriorating and breaking up,” he stresses.
Beautiful things are meant to be admired from afar, as the photos below might tell you.
This is mesmerizing. The frozen water of Lake Michigan has started melting and is pushing up these shards of ice. I'm obsessed! 😍😍😍😍 pic.twitter.com/ZXPXRSanfK— myob. (@xSaltsicle) March 21, 2019
