A new type of “alcohol” that makes you feel drunk without any impending hangover is poised to be made available within the next five years.
The synthetic alcohol called ‘Alcarelle’ is the result of research carried out by former government advisor Professor David Nutt and his team. It contains a molecule called “alcosynth,” which gives you a buzz but is incapable of causing hangovers the next day.
‘Alcarelle’ is said to imitate the elements found in alcohol—sociability, relaxation and fun—minus harmful effects that could be damaging to drinkers’ health. The drink will also be free of toxic elements that are detrimental to the liver, and will not contribute to causing alcohol-related diseases.
Professor Nutt told The Guardian that the drink would require further testing to ensure if the molecule is safe to consume.
Instead of stopping someone from being intoxicated altogether, he found a way to induce tipsiness by targeting certain areas of the brain and eliminate the adverse effects. Professor Nutt described that the drink stimulates positive receptors like Gaba, which calms the brain.
It seems like the new concoction might be a hit once it is sold in bars and clubs.
