Fans are reportedly not pleased that ‘Captain Marvel’ is seen with more makeup in the Avengers: Endgame trailer than her appearance in her standalone film, but its director has an explanation for that.
Execs of the film have been criticized for portraying ‘Captain Marvel’ to appease the male gaze. Captain Marvel, directed by a man and woman, seemingly had an authentic representation of the female superhero; Avengers: Endgame, directed by two men, gave her heavy makeup.
According to io9, director Joe Russo addressed the controversy at a press conference, saying that stars of Endgame were given more control on the ways they would have their characters portrayed, as they needed to be comfortable in the roles.
Larson was more dolled-up in Avengers: Endgame because, in spite of the fact that Captain Marvel hit theaters earlier, she started work as the superhero in Endgame first. For this film, stars were allowed to have creative choices, and her look was decided upon by herself and her hair and makeup team.
Eventually, Larson would be allowed more creative freedom in Captain Marvel, in which she probably thought the character would look more suitable with less makeup.
‘Captain Marvel’ will be making her appearance in Avengers: Endgame on 26 April.

Why is anyone making a big deal out of this. What difference does it make if she has makeup on https://t.co/LHk6KBiW0t— Eric Brones (@Elbrones) April 10, 2019
This makes so much sense to me...but also who is to say she hasnt been back to earth since the 90s(Captain Marvel 2?) And Carpl just wanting to wear makeup because shes a human woman who can eliminate a space fleet and can do as she pleases...her makeup never was an issue for me https://t.co/OVNLlB69Dd— theBeard_27 (@mavericksTOPGUN) April 9, 2019
So wait...does this means Brie Larson is the monster because SHE made Captain Marvel wear makeup?— Andrew Schweitzer (@SchweitzerMan) April 9, 2019
