Poundland Under Fire For Baby Onesie That Seemingly Promotes Misogyny

Poundland has been chastised by internet users for selling a baby romper that they say fosters misogynistic behavior in boys.
Rebecca Roache took to social media to share an image of the £1.50 (US$1.96) baby suit she spotted at the discount retailer’s store in Witney, Oxon. The garment displays a cartoon image of a bow tie with the words, “Lock Up Your Daughters.”
“Never too early to start training boys to be sex pests?” questionss Roache, a mother of two.
The woman explains that the slogan has the potential to cultivate children’s attitudes negatively in the long run. Additionally, it feeds to the notion that boys will be boys, and that males might be able to “run wild” without needing to “take responsibility for their actions.” She adds that it contains subtle sexual connotations suggesting “men dominate women.”
If such “inappropriate and misogynistic” words are exposed to boys at a young age—the piece is for newborns and infants up to 12 months old—Roache says they could impact their thinking even until they are sexually active.
Alongside this onesie is a pink version for girls with the tagline, “Mummy’s Little Diva.”
Parents have expressed their disgust over the garment on Twitter, with one user even commenting that the “awful” onesie “places the male infant as a sexual aggressor.” Another user agrees that the message “paints boys as sex pests.”
However, others think parents are becoming “oversensitive,” as they feel the design is just “a bit of fun.” Despite the negative feedback, a spokesperson for Poundland says that the apparel happens to be one of its best-selling baby suits, as “most customers appreciate the humor.”
Poundland’s possibly tone-deaf outfit shortly follows the discovery of “pedophilic” baby onesies on Amazon that come with slogans like, “Daddy’s Little F**k Toy.”

O M G I am literally banging my head off the wall! Are you for real??? Get a god dam grip why do depressing people like you take the fun out of everything. I’m 99.9999% sure a baby boy wearing this is not going to grow up to be a sex pest. Bet your kids have fun with you 👌🏻👌🏻— faye (@fayclvr) April 10, 2019
OH PLEASE! Do you get annoyed with people who have comedy car stickers as well? Does “honk if you bonk” promote promiscuity? Is “Dads taxi” encouraging youngsters to get in unlicensed vehicles? Is “my other cars a Porsche” just encouraging people to own two cars to keep up?— Mark Ecky (@markecky) April 11, 2019
My daughter has a vest that says lock up your sons. I really hope she doesn't grow up to be a killer or that will make a pretty terrible for parent for starting her on her wicked ways at 1 year of age— Jason L. Reid (@TheReid7) April 11, 2019
