Burger King UK’s new stunt saw the fast food restaurant serving the ‘Whopper’ and… only the ‘Whopper’.
The chain only served its signature flame-grilled burger as part of its ‘Go Whopper or Go Home’ campaign, dedicating the entirety of 17 April just for it.
Created with advertising agency BBH London, the stunt—called ‘Whopper Takeover’—aimed to reignite patrons’ love for the burger.
The campaign also involved a commercial where Burger King’s personnel fended off customers who ordered anything but the ‘Whopper’.
The ad opens with a hungry diner ordering a cheeseburger at the drive-thru. BK’s employee then replies him with a, “No,” leaving him confused. Before he drives away, the employee’s colleagues band together, glare at him and say, “Keep driving, sir.”
Burger King UK’s marketing director Katie Evans describes her excitement at dedicating an entire day for the “pride and joy” of the chain, the ‘Whopper’. Speaking about the campaign, BBH London’s chief creative officer Ian Heartfield also cheekily states that even though customers are always right, they weren’t if they ordered “something other than ‘Whopper’” on 17 April.
