There are only about five months before Apple is expected to roll out new iPhones. While 2019’s flagship variations—dubbed ‘iPhone XI’ and ‘iPhone XI Max’ by speculators—are poised to bear similar designs to the preceding iPhones X and XS, what might excite fans is that they’re anticipated to house a triple-camera system on their rears.
Now, a photo of a set of dummy units, via tech leaker /LEAKS, seems to have escaped online. The prototypes are believed to have been 3D-printed as molds for third-party ‘iPhone XI’ and ‘iPhone XI Max’ cases.
Most notably, the dummies come with squarish indentations at the back to show how the iPhones’ rear camera lenses might be configured. This design seems consistent with several reports about the camera system thus far.
Thanks to leaked schematics from Apple’s supply chain, third-party manufacturers are often able to one-up rivals and roll out iPhone accessories early—sometimes even before the tech giant announces the handsets.
Elsewhere, leading tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the front cameras of 2019’s iPhones will be upgraded from seven megapixels to 12 megapixels. To avoid aesthetic clutter, Apple is also expected to “hide” some of the gadgets’ camera lenses by coating them in black.
The 2019 upgrade of the mid-tier iPhone XR is also believed to move on to a dual camera system on its rear, and all three iPhones are poised to retain the sizes of their predecessors.
