As previously proven by Nokia, multi-lens smartphones are bound to trigger trypophobic reactions. Despite people’s growing reliance on smartphone cameras, Apple might not count on much of its demographic to upgrade to its forthcoming iPhones.
Multiple reports have detailed a triple-camera system on the rear of 2019’s flagship iPhones, coined by the public as iPhones ‘XI’ and ‘XI Max’. The lenses seem to be packed in a square configuration, as depicted in the concept below:

The upgrade of the mid-tier iPhone XR, currently dubbed by outsiders as iPhone ‘11R’, is believed to be supersized from one rear lens to two lenses—but it won’t share the same rear appearance as the dual-lens iPhone XS. Rather, the cameras seem to also be fitted in the same boxed design as the rumored iPhones ‘XI’ and ‘XI Max’.
Various renderings of the purported handsets have surfaced online, unexpectedly getting squirms out of people who deal with trypophobia, the scientific term for a fear of irregular clusters of holes.
“This legit triggers my trypophobia,” one Apple user comments. “I have an iPhone X and usually like to update to the newest model every couple years, but I definitely won’t be buying this iteration.”
Another jokes that the designs look as if the iPhone “is hitting puberty and has acne.”
Would you get the 2019 TriPhones?
