By Yimin Huang, 30 May 2019
Visitors can now book an Uber to explore the famous Great Barrier Reef, in the submarine form called ‘scUber’. The effort to pun is respected. The service is available from 27 May to 18 June.
Uber has partnered with Queensland, Australia to get visitors to enjoy an underwater journey with a ride sharing submarine that will take them on a one-hour tour of the iconic reef.
In order to get a ride, the general procedure is the same. You have to log into the Uber app to book, but additionally, an Uber operator would give you a call to confirm the ride, and check your weight to make sure the riders on the same submarine do not exceed the limit. The Uber submarine drivers can also be rated on the app, like any normal Uber driver.
Uber will also be donating with every fare to Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef in an effort to protect the reef from climate change, coral bleaching and over-tourism, according to scUber.
Those who also want to contribute to an environmental cause can log into your Uber app and book a submarine trip to the Great Barrier Reef for a whopping £1,625 (or US$2051.77), inclusive of the direct helicopter ride to the submarine’s departure point.
